What's Holding Back What's Holding Back The Item Upgrading Industry?
World of Warcraft - Item Upgrading

The item upgrade lets players boost the gear rating of an item by up 700 points, and then add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you bring them to the Kiln.
Certain items are worth upgrading because of their unique stats. (For instance an excellently rolled breakpoint armor used in melee PvP). Other items, like weapons don't really change after an upgrade and therefore aren't worth the cost.
Weapons
Weapons can be upgraded to increase their numeric stats, such as crit chance, attack damage, PvE and PvP damage. Weapons also come with an unchanging bonus that increases the damage they deal per second. A lot of weapons also have a fixed bonus that is activated when three or more identical weapons are used in a group. This bonus can sometimes exceed the damage a weapon upgrade can do on its own.
The cost of upgrading a weapon is based on the rarity of the weapon and its current level. For example, an +2 weapon requires two standard Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones needed to upgrade a gun will increase until it needs more Smithing Stones. At that point it will reset to one.
Upgrades to weapons will also reroll the stats of the base. While this is generally a good thing, it can have some negative consequences as well. In the case of items that only see use in a particular build (Whistant's shield for FB Sorcs, for example) upgrading them can make them unusable unless you happen to have an extremely lucky roll.
The ability to upgrade armor items to improve their performance. This can boost the defense of a chest or helm while belts and gloves can boost their strength and agility. Armor also offers the option of rerolling its Enhanced Defense%, meaning that it could reroll to a lower value.
The upgrade template for a weapon will display the new stats that it will gain upon upgrading and their respective values. This means that a change from an 8 attack-damage sword to an 11-attack-damage sword will result in the weapon gaining an attack damage of 3. However the 3% difference doesn't mean that it will be hit for 3 times less often as it is an absolute statistic.
Rerolling a weapon is possible by pressing the green button in the item menu using the circling arrows. The item will be rerolled and alter its stats, but not reset the weapon's levels, or connect it to an account's status.
Armor
A few tweaks to your armor could make a a huge difference in your ability to endure. Certain sets offer massive increases in poison, curse, fire and magic resistance, which makes it easier to navigate through tough terrain. In general, the greater defense your character has, the more value you can get from every point of health you have, so it's important to improve your armor as often as you can.
You can upgrade your armor by visiting one of the Great Fairy Fountains. There are four fountains in all and each one requires you to complete a unique side quest involving the Stable Trotters musical troupe. Once you've done the main side quest and mastered the fountain that corresponds you'll be able to speak to any Great Fairy to open up the menu for upgrading your armor.
The amount of materials needed to upgrade each piece of armor is different. You'll need anywhere from three Red Chuchu jelly and 10 Rupees to upgrade the initial armor piece, and between five Rubies or 10 Fire-Breath Horns to upgrade the next one. The Champion Leathers, for example can be upgraded to a +5 defense rating, which allows you to remain competitive in cold environments with a lot of adversaries. The Snowquill Headdress, on the other is able to be upgraded to +20 defense so that you can survive a raid with your comrades.
It isn't possible to upgrade armor the same as weapons. If you're playing as a Warrior it is best to focus on upgrading your armor for physical strength or spell power. It's also worthwhile to save your armor upgrades for armor you'll be wearing at the end of the game, like the Ring of Lightning and Spectral Shield, or the helmet you'll wear to fight the final boss, the Monter Parts Merchant's mask.
By giving the jeweler 10 Twinkling Titanite in Gerudo Town in Gerudo Town, you can unlock some perks on your armor. In general, you should save these upgrades for the weapon you'll be using to win the game, such as the Longsword, Battleaxe or Warhammer however, it could be useful to have some upgrades to your chest armor and helmets that permit you to sneak past certain monsters.
Potions
Potions are liquids that, when consumed by the participant, produce a temporary effect. There are five kinds of potions, each having specific effects and durations. Some potions can be upgraded to improve their level of effectiveness. You can also enhance the effects of certain potions by including glowstone dust and redstone.
Upgrades to potion cost a certain amount of XP, which can be earned by making them using a craft table or the chest of the Alchemist. The upgrade price varies depending on the type of potion and the item's Rarity and Mark Level.
To upgrade a potion simply right-click on it in your inventory. Then, select "Upgrade" from the menu. This will open a GUI where you can select the potions you wish to upgrade and the amount of XP they will produce when upgraded. You can upgrade potions in batches of up to five at a time, and their XP will be added to the total XP you have.
Once item upgrades is upgraded, it will not be degraded until you use it again, or break the bottle it's stored in. Clicking on the potion in your inventory will allow you to change its name.
Version 1.7.2 introduced a few changes to the mechanics of potions. Splash potions, for example are now available with a time of 0:08 instead of the 22.5 seconds shown on the item hover display. The table of potion now made of four Wood Planks, and two Glass. It can be utilized in both Survival and Bedrock. Bedrock Edition potions aren't compatible with cauldrons, unlike Java Edition. The same is true for using a potion within a cauldron that is full. This will deplete the potion, and refill the bottle.
Finally, there are lingering potions, which are made using dragon breath and splash potions. Similarly, a lingering potions can be enhanced by adding redstone to it. The table of potions is rearranged to look more like the Java Edition. New potions have also been added such as the potion of leaping and decomposition.
Trinkets
A trinket can be an ornament that is small and inexpensive or piece of jewelry. It can also refer to an object or decoration that serves a purpose, but isn't particularly significant such as a thimble. In some cultures, a trinket is used to signify affection or friendship, particularly between family members.
Trinkets can be upgraded by players as well as weapons or armor, as well as potions. Upgrades can be purchased by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. Trinkets like other items that can be upgraded, can be exchanged at any time without losing stats.
The upgrade vendors are located in major cities and in the capital of each zone, and in some instances in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets can be purchased with gold, tokens or fragments of a rare trinket.
Upgrading a trinket is an economical alternative to buying a new one. A player can upgrade their trinket for as little 12 tokens. The new trinket has the same level of base as the old trinket but it also comes with an additional bonus of 1% upgrade.
Once the old Trinkets are no longer usable, they can be upgraded. This allows a player to increase both their power and value with time. They can also be traded between players which makes them an attractive alternative to gold.
Players should upgrade their most important items first. This usually refers to the most valuable-in-slot items for their class, then their secondaries and then other gear items that they will not be replacing in the near future (for instance, a ring or cloak). Players should also take into consideration their class's preferred stats when selecting which items to upgrade. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats for tank players, then they should upgrade their helm, chest and shoulders.
When they are no longer useful trinkets can be upgraded to a greater level. The upgraded trinket will give you an additional bonus of 1. However, a re-upgrade will cause the trinket to be destroyed until it is salvaged with the Black Lion Salvage Kit or a higher-tier salvage tool. This means upgrading trinkets is more expensive than other upgrades, yet is still less expensive than buying an entirely new trinket.
